THE BRIEF:
The client was a young family looking to create a more comfortable and functional home. They asked for expanded openings between living areas to enhance space and flow, internal layout changes to add a walk-in robe, powder room, and an additional bathroom and study upstairs. They also wanted to retain the existing timber trims and mouldings.
BUILDING DETAILS:
The existing house sat towards the bottom of a sloping site covered in trees, which meant the proposed design incorporated additional skylights and increased the size of windows.
Finishes included messmate, fire streak and Tasmanian oak ‘Driftwood’ flooring, double glazed windows with Tasmanian oak frames, natural stone benchtops, handmade ceramic tiles for the kitchen splashback, and solid blackbutt timber sliding door.
THE CHALLENGES WE FACED:
The existing flooring was Eucalyptus messmate (variety firestreak),, which we needed to extend into the laundry, powder room and separate living area and repair in the kitchen. However, we couldn’t source floorboards in this species to match the width of the existing boards. So, we reused some existing boards we kept during the demolition and found a type of Victorian Ash timber to closely match the in the correct width board – a good solution.
RESULT:
The Dudley Parade Renovation transformed an existing home with elegant finishes and abundant natural light into a home with improved flow and amenities. Completed within strict time constraints, the project highlights our commitment to meticulous planning and efficient execution.
